Mr. Half Dime passed away this year and his family has decided to disperse his collection which contained all 92 die marriages and lacked only 3 remarriages. Proceeds from the sale will help the family pay for medical and assisted living facility charges incurred during the last years of Steve's life. He was 70 years old.
W. David Perkins will be bringing part of his collection and a few other "Extraordinary" Half Dimes to market with a fixed price list (64 lots) and sealed bid sale (20 lots). I always enjoy the catalog put together by Perkins and Richard Meaney. They have high quality images, provenance, die state and are altogether educational.
The fixed price list was priced in line with PCGS retail estimates (-10% to +20%). It will be interesting to see how the sealed bid sale lots fare. With the reserves and the pool of buyers, I am estimating that 5 of 20 lots do not meet the reserve.
I currently own 19 of 92 marriages and 1 remarriage. There are 31 remarriages.
51 of 64 lots quickly sold in the first round offerings. I requested 3 lots and was fortunate to receive my first choice (1832 LM-8.1), but did not receive my second or third choices. Of the 13 remaining fixed price lots, I considered purchasing (1835 LM-1), but will hold my bankroll in check.
With this acquisition, I now have 19 of 92 marriages and 2 remarriages. This compliments my purchase of 1832 LM-8.5 purchased in 2015.
