2022 National Money Show - Colorado Springs

 March 10, 2022

Trip to Colorado Springs for the National Money Show hosted by the ANA.

The drive down was tougher than usual with sections of hard packed snow on I-25.  The Broadmoor was a beautiful venue with lots of room for the speakers, displays and the bourse floor.

I attended "Clark, Gruber & Co. Territorial Gold Coins:  The Driving Force Which 'Made" the City of Denver in the 19th Century" (Robert M. Bair Jr.).

I took a look at the Collect Exhibits and was most impressed with:

Making the Grade - The 1900-O Morgan Dollar Grading Set

Smith of Ann St. and His "Counterfeits"

The Bourse floor was less impressive.  Eye Appealing Coins out of Hilliard, OH was the only dealer with a fair selection of US dimes and half dimes.  I took a close look at 1820 JR-12 from the Jules Reiver Colleciton PCGS XF 45, but the price was $5000.  I took a look at 1821 JR-2 R6+ in VG08, the price was $1550.  My trades did not provide much bargaining power as he was offering about 60% of what I expected.

I did like "The First U.S. Dimes" exhibit from the money museum featuring three 1796 and 1797 dimes.

The Young Collectors Corner was less impressive than in years past, but they did have the scavenger hunt.  I may still take the kids down on Saturday.

UPDATE:  3/12/2022

Ratna and the girls did come down on Saturday and we had a really nice time.  The scavenger hunt was a lot of fun.  A lot of the dealers were packing up, but they still were giving away prizes including sample slabs from PCGS and NGC, sample note from PCGS, stock certificate, mint proof set, buffalo nickel, elongated coin and mixed foreign coins.  I will take some time to label the kids stuff.
