W. David Perkins SBS of James Matthews Collection

David Perkins is offering 59 lots in from the James Matthews bust dime collection.  I am fortunate to have purchased several Matthews half dimes from the 2014 sale.

Amongst the coins are some rarities that should push $10K+.  My estimate of the sale is $115K if all of the lots sell.  I am uncertain of the reserves.

Top lots include the
1829 JR-10 (R5) VF details, damaged - $10K?
1833 JR-3 (R5+) MS 63 - $18K?

I settled on (4) lots that I felt would be within my budget, fit in my collection well, had better provenance, interesting die states and been off the market significantly.

Lot 106 - 1820 10c JR-4 (R4+) PCGS XF45 CAC - This lot sold for $552 in the 2002 Logan sale and PCGS retail is $1000.  I think it will hammer for $800.  My bid $1000.  DID NOT WIN hammered $1458.

Lot 112 - 1821 10c JR-1 (R2) PCGS F12 - This does not have much provenance, but does have an interesting die state.  PCGS retail is is $215.  I think it will hammer for $400.  My bid is $250.  I WON THIS LOT FOR $220 + $33 Buyer's Premium = $253!!!

Lot 120 - 1825 10c JR-4 (R3-) PCGS F12 CAC - This coin has an attractive terminal cud and an interesting back story on being a coveted piece from Eugene Bruder's cabinet.  PCGS retail is $215.  I think it will hammer for $800.  My bid is $440.  DID NOT WIN hammered for $7,590.  This one truly blew away my estimate.  High Bid was $8,000, underbidder was $6,900 and there were 3 other bids.

Lot 159 - 1837 10c JR-2 (R3) PCGS XF45 - This is a Reiver coin and has a provenance back to 1986.  It has an advanced crack on the reverse.  It last sold in 2006 for $633.  PCGS retail is $400.  I think it will hammer for $900.  My bid is $670.  DID NOT WIN hammered for $1,100.

Of the (4) lots, I am hoping to pick up lot 106 for $800 + $120 buyer's premium.  I tried to be reasonable with my bids and keep them at or above PCGS retail, which does take into account grade and rarity, but does not take into account die state or provenance.
