Sale 32 included 2 Gupta Dynasty lots.
The first was a Kumaragupta coin which was not a particular rarity, but did have an amazing strike. The estimate was $1000 to $1200. I expected the lot to go around $1500 and it hammered for $2000 (well outside my price range).
The second was Prakasaditya which was an exceptional rarity with only 62 specimens cataloged by Sanjeev Kumar. While listed as EF, I was not as impressed with the strike. The estimate was $2200 to $2600 and it ended up hammering for $3500. I expected it to go for $4500, but the coin was outside of my price range, unless it hammered for the lower end of the estimate.
