I have been re-thinking my hobbies and have not been actively researching and purchasing coins.
I am still focused on Gupta Dynasty coinage and have been primarily following along with Stephen Album offerings. The last auction had 1 Kumaragupta I Peacock type in VF condition (auction 36, lot 1022). The estimate was $5000 to $6000 and it did not sell. It was considered RR (very rare, collectors may have to wait years to locate one). However the VF condition was tough to swallow.
I have also followed dimes and half dimes when David Perkins offers collections. My last purchase was from the Stephen Crain collection.
I have dropped my membership in the Oriental Numismatic Society and the Numismatic Bibliomania Society, but have maintained my John Reich Collectors Society and American Numismatic Association memberships.
Going forward I would like to continue to liquidate my half dollars and quarter dollars and focus on dimes, maybe going for a set by year or a complete year set. The full set by die variety has become cost prohibitive and storage prohibitive. I want my collection to live in 3 slab boxes (60 coins). As one gets added, something else has to be eliminated.
Half Dimes 21/123
Dimes 21/123
Quarters 4 (1831-1838)
Half Dollars 13 (1819-1834, 1904)
Gupta Dynasty coins - 9 coins
Part of the pause is financial. I find myself with less disposable income. Also my other hobbies have been taking a larger share of the disposable income that I do have. The beauty of coin collecting is that it is easy to return to.
