Rusty of rustysmaps.com has an amazing life history growing up in Arvada, attending the Coast Guard Academy for a brief period (based on his learning Russian in high school), working for various coin dealers in the Denver area, serving in the Marine Corps, owning a mining claim near Fairplay, CO and working in social services.
His talk was on Colorado gold mining and he talked about wet vs dry panning and high gold areas like Breckenridge, Idaho Springs, Fairplay and Cripple Creek. Gold is dry extracted by crushing rock. Event today, Adam's County extracts 50 ounces of gold from gravel brought in for county projects. He discussed his map, mining laws and how they evolved.
Finally, he closed with the very difficult issue of stamp counterfeiting which I had never heard of and did not realize it was an issue. Apparently, sheets of stamps manufactured in China are showing up in circulation and are causing a lot of headache for the US Postal Service.
