Denver Coin Expo - Fall 2023

I had the opportunity to attend the Denver Coin Expo on Thursday, October 12th and was pleasantly surprised by the bourse floor.  It was active, there were a lot of my favorite dealers and some new ones.  Further, they all brought a lot of inventory in the form of capped bust and draped bust dimes and half dimes.

West Coast Coins (Toledo, OR) brought the house and I was overwhelmed with beautiful collector grade coins in the $1000-$2000 range.  Highlight 1827 10c (JR-11, R2) NGC AU53 - $1350

Jason's Bullion & Numismatics (Colorado Springs, CO) had a very nice selection of half dimes.  They were a little shiny for me, but one had really impressive clash marks.  1835 LM-3 AU58 $450; 1836 LM-5 AU48 $475

Erie Gold & Silver (Erie, CO) brought the house with some of the most affordable dimes on the bourse floor.  1825 10c (JR-2) VG 10 $175.  1824/2 10c (JR-2) G04 $220.  1824/2 10c (JR-2) F15 $525.  I cannot recall seeing two of the same capped bust variety in a dealers cabinet.

I bought some 2x2 cardboard boxes from Collectons.  I also grabbed a zipped coin bag from Old Pueblo Coins.

I also finally turned in my member application to the Denver Coin Club.

I dropped off 2 coins to be graded by ANACS including my recently acquired 1835 h10c LM-8.1 and the 1804 half cent from my Dad.  I am pretty sure they will straight grade, but am curious about where they end up.  I put them both at VF25.  The line to drop off was beyond frustrating with two collectors dropping off well over 40 coins each.  A few of us in line waited over an hour to transact 2 coins each.  My 2 coin transaction took longer than I expected at 3-5 minutes despite having paper work filled out and the coins already placed in flips.

I did buy a weekend pass, but will probably not pop back in.  I have been on a bit of a buying spree between Denver Coin Club and South Suburban.  Further, I picked up some books from Stephen Album Rare Coins.

UPDATE 10/25/2023 - ANACS reached out and said my coins were being sent to A Coin Shop in Littleton.

1835 h10c LM-8.1 (R2) - VF20 - Redbook $125
1804 1/2 Cent C-12 (R2) Crosslet 4, Stemless - VF35 - Redbook $375.  C-12 is the Cohen number.

UPDATE 10/26/2023 - A Coin Shop is a nice little shop and Paul (the owner is a nice guy).  I took a look at a couple of dimes.  1827 10c JR-4 (R2) N40 CAC asking $650 and 1845 10c JR-5 (R1) P53 asking $600.  Both were probably fairly priced, but a little rich for me right now.  I walked over to Harley's Hotdogs but was not impressed with their offerings.  Mostly 100% all beef, andouille sausage, buffalo brat and some spicy stuff.  I could have got a chicken sandwich or veg patty but opted to heat at home.
