The coins started off commanding some serious bids and the market for ancient Indian coinage in the United States is alive and well. Just going through the listings, I have a whole new list of references I would like to purchase. The coins have good strikes and minimal wear. The makings are clearly legible on the coins which goes a long way towards attribution.
24041 - Skandagupta, Silver (won for $50 plus $29 BP)
24042 - Skandagupta, Lead (won for $45 plus $29 BP)
The juice certainly stings, but I was prepared to go to $100 for the Lead coin. The silver coin I went back and forth on. It was certainly legible and interesting. The planchet crack threw me a bit. All in, I am looking at $95 + $58 buyer's premium + shipping = around $170. Not the end of the world and expands my Gupta Dynasty coinage affordably.
BP is usually 22% (which is steep enough), but the minimum is $29. So basically, I had to pay an extra $20/coin because they were cheap. $132 is the over/under.
