May 2026 - South Suburban Coin Club - 1793 Cent

Eric Milton of the Denver Coin Club gave a fun talk on the 1793 Cent.  He started his talk with some history and coinage created by the states prior to independence from England.  This included the New England Shilling and coins from other colonies.  Then he went on to discuss the Fugio cent.  Then the various minted cents and pattern cents with varieties identified by Sheldon and Judd respectively.  It was interesting.

1797 1c Reverse of 1797, Stems BN - PCGS 85799163 - Price Guide $325
1795 1c Plain Edge, BN - PCGS 85799162 ~ $2,000
1793 1c Chain - PCGS 38344021 - $10,200 HA Lot 3005
1793 1c Chain - PCGS 16655404 - $2,880 Stack's Bowers Lot 1013

I also passed around the example Wooden Nickel for the South Suburban 60th Anniversary.  It was well received and I will have (50) made up for distribution.

It also got me thinking about presentations for South Suburban.  Either something on coin clubs, wooden nickels or even counterstamps as advertising.

I also won the 1971 Decimal Day door prize worth about $3 to $5.
