September 2023 - Denver Coin Club Meeting - So Called Dollars

John Dean gave a great talk on medals and was kind enough to sign my So Called Dollars book.

Purchased 1899 $20 (PCGS MS61) from Bob Bair.

Purchased 1830 10c JR-7 (NGC VF25) from David Fox who mentioned that he purchased it from Great Collections and that was listed as a raw coin that was delivered slabbed (hopefully he was just mistaken and not fibbing).  On looking up the certification 2640512-003 it had changed hands at Heritage Auctions January 29, 2021 for $144 (includes the Buyer's Premium, $120 + 20% juice).  It then did move at Great Collections on December 25, 2022 and went for $164 ($184.50 with the juice).  My purchase price of $200 is high side, but certainly within reason.  If David Fox was the buyer from Great Collections, he made a fair return on the coin and may have just broken even if he had to pay for shipping.
